Ball Drop 2009

It's been a crappy break, not going to lie. I feel like I've spent this last half of it stressing out or being depressed. Mom is done with surgeries though and I'm eager for school to start up! But before I run galavanting off into the sunset, I wanted to look back on a few parts of 2009. Here's a brief rundown of most of the important stuff roughly in order:

  • Started out trying to re-date
  • Attending Blinn
  • Loved dead people class
  • Thought I had cavities (but didn't)
  • Adopted the infamous ferrets from the shelter
  • Transfered back to A&M (Stat=no fun. Rec=great!)
  • Got a DSi
  • Trip to Las Vegas
  • Tried hiring artists (yikes!)
  • Broke up
  • Grandpa passed away
  • Transfered back to A&M (again. damn you Howdy)
  • Tried dating people (who I found myself for the first time)
  • Went to an awkward 'passion party' (broke her foot how?)
  • Ferrets fighting fleas!! Massive bombing maneuvers!
  • Lost my damn mind
  • Made lots of new friends around Sweets
  • Grim died
  • Obama spoke on campus
  • Annna lived with me!
  • Tried Nanowrimo
  • Wrote a research paper on Animorphs
  • Ran a half marathon with mom, dad, and sarah
  • made all As and Bs!
  • Trip to Austin!
  • xmas with mom in the hospital
  • scoured San Antonio for bubble tea
  • We all watched Samuel L Jackson get eaten Mako sharks for new years!

Goodbye 2009 and all your instability! You were a year of lots of changes, transitions, and a heaping dose of drama... but now get out

Strength

I think Thanksgiving may be one of my favorite holidays. I just like the tone. Thanksgiving isn't a tv/radio advertisement guilt trip to make the general public feel obligated to go down a falate superstores and malls across the country. Thanksgiving is nothing but simple dinners with family. You just can't sex that up like you can Valentines day or Christmas. Thanksgiving is nice; being more thankful just feels so introspective and cleansing (and inexpensive).

I have a lot to be thankful for, but the things that I focus on have changed over the years. For years I used to say I was thankful for my house and having my own room and food and having a family and being able to drive myself places.. etc. My list has been changing a little over the past few years in particular though (a lot of things have). Last year was a year I really realized just how strong my family members are. My mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa have all lead full and successful lives that I had never really thought about collectively before. I can tell that a lot of that has passed onto my sister too. This year opened the scope even more. I've met and grown closer to people outside my family with a steady radiating glow of personal fortitude. It's not always obvious at first, but over time you can really see the hope, drive, love and success of people with less innate talent and less than perfect circumstances. You can't help but feel a little bit inspired. Having people like this willingly include me in their lives by choice is what I'm most thankful for this year.

b l a c k f r i d a y

Finally, my weeks of trying to hybrid flowers have given me a rare and elusive black rose in my Animal Crossing game, on Friday the 13th of all days! The black rose, obtained by planting and water red roses together, is half way to the rarest flower in the game. Next I'm hoping to get some purple roses, obtained from white roses; the hybrid of black roses and purple roses is the blue rose.

Resolute

It's a New Year! Happy New Year! I don't remember much of what I said my resolutions would be last year. But somehow I feel like I achieved most of them. Next year I want to weigh a solid 160, be well into A&M Anthropology, and a decent way into my eclectic comic.
