D Si

Nintendo will be releasing their new super special awesome DS model very soon. Although Nintendo has yet to put anything about it on their official website (which is chronically about 2 months behind the rest of the world) it's already been released in Japan and other sources say it's due to hit the US in the first quarter of 09. About the same size as the DS Lite, it has done away with the Game-Boy Advance slot (and thus cannot play GBA games or DS games that used the DS slot). What it gains however are two low resolution cameras, an SD card slot, capabilities to play music and minor picture modification, and will be released with a new Wii-like interface. It will update it's internal software by connecting to the internet, much like the Wii, and an internet 'DSi software' store will be put up where 'channels' of software can be purchased with points and downloaded to the DSi, among which include a limited Opera Internet browser. In addition to the major changes some small things, like the power button and volume control have been moved around and changed.

I definitely like the sound of the new software interface, the only thing that makes me think twice about lining up to buy is removal of the Game-Boy Advance slot as some DS games did use it as a plug in for peripherals and I occasionally play GBA games. The camera seems hooky and unless the SD card is implemented in someway beyond making it a pseudo-crappy-iPod I can't see the point of the hardware changes.
